About Arte Sano

Arte Sano Colombian Handicrafts are accessories handy made by native Colombian Indigenous, and Colombian Artisans. Shown as a manual art that represents the expression of a culture, Indigenous handicrafts, are at the same time an esthetic representation on how nature can be used in a different way and how it can interact with men.

Arte Sano, is the name of the brand that in spanish has different meanings depending if it is taken as one word together or if it is taken as two separate words. When it is taken just as one word, artesano, translates into artisan, which would be the person who creates art with his hands. In this case those people would be native Colombian Indigenous when they transform elements from nature to pieces of art like these accessories.

However, if the name is taken as two separate words, Arte translates into art, and Sano translates into healthy, which together would be translated into healthy art. It is known as healthy art for native Colombian Indigenous because as it is well known, internal conflict in Colombia has caused many groups to leave their land and look for ways to survive in big cities. Among this ways to survive many saw them selves forced to  use outlaw ways to survive, but indigenous used their own culture as an advantage. Watching how positive the respond was from people of big cities to their hadicrafts they decided to promote their handicrafts and use them as a way of living and at the same time promote the roots of a variety of indigenous groups.

Culturally, it tends to express their individual expression as well as the creativity of their culture, shown in a formal way by the quality and originality of their handicrafts. This has been a big step for the recognition of Colombian identity by knowing better their roots. That is why I would like to promote Colombian handicrafts, as a way to keep those cultural expressions alive and allow the whole world to know them. A point to Start would be here in North America letting people appreciate these handicrafts as a piece of art that they can wear every day.
